The concept of the roleplay is very simple, ill pose you with a scenario and you will tell me how your character wants to react. If your are unsure about anything all you need to do is ask. The best way to do this is a post in the questions and suggestions part of the forum or quick questions in the roleplay posts themselves with the question and the letters 'OOC' the the end of the question. This means Out Of Character so I can distinguish between roleplaying and genuine queries. There will be some questions I wont answer, this will be because your character wouldnt know them, for instance if you asked me who the priminister of a country was I can tell you, however if you asked me his mistriss's name I'd not be able to tell you as no one in the world would know that except a select few, however your character may be able to investigate that to find out who it is.
The limitations of this are your imagination, anything is possible as long as you can think of it, within the reasonable bounds of the world of course.
Combat
This is slighly more involved but still very simple. It goes in turn, the first person to fight will be determined by me based on the circumstances. The player or myself (the npc) will declare what they are doing, then the other combatent will declare what they are doing in response to this. As it unfolds I will describe what is happening and you will be able to follow the action.
The way confrontations are settled is by a number of factors, how smart and appropriate the action the player is taking actually is, how adept the character is at the skill they are using to fight, how powerful their weapons are and the number of 'Stunt' points used.
Stunt points are your way as a player of controlling the fight at a critical point. You have three to spend each combat initially and you regain one every two combat rounds up to a max of three.
Using one point allows you to make an extra action.
Using two points gains you the upperhand.
Using all three allows you to do both.
What is an action?
Very simply an action is something you do in a combat round, something short sweet and simple. Swing a weapon at someones head, jump behind cover, draw a weapon, reload, throw up a block against a punch, these are all actions.
What is a combat round?
A round is where everyone takes their turn making an action, when its over a new round begins.
What is the upperhand?
The upperhand or having the upperhand means that you go before your opponent in the combat order. This can be advantageous as it means your no longer reacting to your opponents attacks if they had the upperhand previously.
Heres an example of combat you understand what i mean.
Matthew Isaacs vs Generic Thug No4
Who has the upperhand?
The Thug was waiting in the shadows and gets the drop on Isaacs as he comes out into the alley from the rear entrance of the bar (the Thug has the upperhand).
Round 1
Thug: The Thug swings for Isaacs head with a piece of Iron pipe.
Isaacs: Isaacs elects to dodge the incoming blow.
Outcome: Isaacs isnt a particularly great fighter but he is pretty fast, however the thug is a brawler and has plenty of experience doing this. The Thug hits Isaacs but not where he intended, he catches him over the back of the arm which stings like a bitch but doesn't do too much damage.
Round 2
Thug: The Thug sees an oppurtunity and redoubles his efforts, he takes another swing at Isaacs head with the iron bar.
Isaacs: Isaacs isnt about to let the same thing happen again he uses one 'stunt' point to gain an extra action taking him down to a total of two 'stunt' points. He uses one action to draw a large wrench from his tool satchel and with the other action uses it to block the bar over his head with both hands.
Outcome: Isaacs manages to block the bar succesfully.
Round 3
Thug: Now the odds are evened the Thug isn't happy, he elects to make the fight unfair again to gain an advantage. He drops his iron bar and unholsters a hidden pistol.
Isaacs: Isaacs uses his action to pretend to back away and spends his two remaining action points to gain the upper hand.
Outcome: as above.
Round 4
Isaacs: Isaacs now has the upperhand and goes first, after pretending to back off he launches himself forward in attack with the wrench in an attempt to knock the pistol out of the thug's hand.
Thug: The Thug tries to dodge the attack.
Outcome: because Isaacs is fast, he has the upperhand and he feigned backing off he is succesful in disarming the Thug. The Thug bellows in pain as his wrist cracks and the pistol tumples to the floor.
Round 5
It has been two turns since Isaacs used his first stunt point so he regains one point.
Isaacs: Isaacs takes a swing at the thug to knock him out.
Thug: The Thug dodges the incoming attack.
Outcome: Despite the Thug being hurt he is a seasoned brawler and manages to leap back out of the way.
Round 6
Isaacs: Without an advantage of somekind the Thug will dodge back away from him and eventually escape. Isaacs elects to end this quickly. He spend his one stunt point and gains an extra action. He uses one to reach down and pickup the pistol and uses the other to shoot the thug.
Thug: The Thug tries to get away.
Outcome: You can't outrun bullets bitch!
Isaacs Wins! Fanfair!
